BENGALURU: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G will be sold via Airtel stores in major cities starting from January 2, along with 4G data enabled post-paid plans.
Until now, Xiaomi devices were only available via its online retail partner Flipkart but during the launch of Redmi Note 4G in India, Xiaomi officials had confirmed that the device will be also available via Airtel Stores.
According to a report published by NDTV, Airtel officials have confirmed that Redmi Note 4G handsets sold through Airtel stores will not be locked and will be open to all networks just like the ones sold through Flipkart.
Interested buyers can purchase the device from Airtel stores located in six major cities – Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Kolkata for Rs. 9,999 ($158). Users can book their devices by logging into the Mi page in the official Airtel website and selecting the preferred pickup store.
The registration process for buying the device has already started and the sales will commence on Friday. Users who intend to purchase Redmi Note 4G via Airtel can opt for different payment methods such as Cash Payment, Credit Card, and Debit Card.
Airtel also said that they are planning to keep one day of every week as ‘Mi Day’ in selected stores, so that users can walk into the store, without pre-booking, and take away their Redmi Note 4G.
Airtel, which currently has the highest number of mobile subscribers in India, has made it mandatory for all buyers to first sign in for Airtel’s myPlan before buying Redmi Note 4G. Users who are currently on a prepaid plan can change to post-paid on reaching the store and configure an Airtel postpaid myPlan with a 3G data pack of at least 500 MB.
Also, existing 3G customers can upgrade to 4G without extra charges as and when 4G services are made available in the selected cities. Airtel is offering 10 GB of free data for Redmi Note 4G buyers in Bengaluru, the only city where 4G is currently available. To avail this offer users will have to login to the Airtel Live website via their Redmi Note 4G smartphones.
