BENGALURU: LG has launched the second generation of its 2013 smartphone, LG G Flex with an upgraded 1080p full HD display and scratch-resistant self-healing back cover.
Even though LG has made a major overhaul to the hardware of the device, the company has still maintained the banana-like curve design by using a plastic 5.5 inch OLED display with a 700-radius curve.
LG’s Head of Smartphone Planning, Dr Ramchan Woo said in unveiling the device: “You may ask us, why curved again? The answer is pretty simple. It is more natural and aesthetically more beautiful. That is the main reason of it. There are also a lot of benefits of the curved smartphone – it is much easier on the eyes and much easier to grip.”
LG has changed little to nothing when it comes to the flexibility but is still in the driving seat of curved handsets as its competitors including Samsung are yet to roll out their concept devices in the market.
The new version of LG G Flex will be the first smartphone to feature the Qualcomm 64 Bit Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor with a clock speed of 2.05 Ghz. The device also has a massive 3 GB RAM and a 32 GB internal storage.
LG G Flex 2 sports a 13 MP primary camera with laser focus and optical image stabilization and a 2.1 MP front camera. LG has made a number of improvements to the camera software from its previous version.
Another major improvement from the 2013 G Flex is the use of a second generation self-healing plastic case that recovers from scratches in less than 10 seconds.
LG’s curved smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box thus becoming one of the very few handsets to feature the new mobile operating system of Google.
The smartphone supports advanced version of 4G LTE called Cat 6 that can transfer data at a rate of 300 Mbit/s. The 9.5mm thick G Flex 2 smartphone is backed by a 3000 mAh battery and weighs 152 Grams.
Like some of the premium smartphones released recently, the G Flex 2 also support quick charging with battery reaching 50% in less than 40 minutes after putting it for charging.
As of now LG has not announced the release date and the exact price of G Flex 2, but the device is expected to hit South Korea during the latter half of the month with a premium price tag.
When it hit stores, LG G Flex 2 will be available in two colors – Platinum Silver and Flamenco Red.
