BENGALURU: Almost six months after Xiaomi unveiled its flagship smartphone model Mi4 in China, the device is expected to reach India on January 28.
Xiaomi, which is also known by the name ‘China’s Apple’, made its entry into the Indian market in August of last year by selling very limited number of Mi3 smartphones via flash sale partnering with India’s largest smartphone selling e-retailer Flipkart. Thereafter, Xiaomi successfully launched three different models of smartphones; first the Redmi 1S, later followed by the Redmi Note and Redmi Note 4G.
The announcement about the release of Mi4 in India came from Manu Jain, Head of India Operations, Xiaomi. According to Jain, the device will be officially launched in India on January 28th and the registrations for the first flash sale via Flipkart will commence on the same day.
Yesterday, Xiaomi had launched its latest flagship devices Xiaomi Mi Note and Mi Note Pro at an event in China. Even though these devices will not be available in the Indian market anytime soon, Xiaomi will replace Redmi Note 4G or another device with the newly launched Mi Note.
Like its predecessor Mi 3, Xiaomi will be releasing only the 16 GB version of Mi4 in India. Xiaomi Mi4 is powered with a premium 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor coupled with 3GB RAM. The phone features a 13 MP Camera like Mi3 with HD Recording and an upgraded front camera with 8 MP for taking selfies and video conferencing. The device is backed by a 3000 mAh battery that can last or more than a day. The Mi 4 features a metal chassis with a removable back panel made out of plastic. The device is compact and lighter than Mi 3.
The company has not yet revealed the price of Mi4 in India but considering that it was released for 1,999 Yuan in China the device will cost somewhere between Rs.17,000 – Rs 20,000.
When Mi4 is launched in India, Xiaomi will most likely discontinue with one of its early models, the Redmi 1S, an affordable smartphone launched in India in October last year.
