NEW DELHI: Almost a month after K Chandrabose, the security guard who was horrifically assaulted by Kerala businessman Mohammed Nisham, died from the injuries he sustained during the attack, new evidence has arisen that demonstrates Nisham and high-ranking police officials colluded in a bribery racket.
Government Chief Whip P.C. George revealed on Friday that Director General of Police (DGP) M.N. Krishnamoorthi exerted pressure on Thrissur Police Commissioner on behalf of fellow DGP K.S. Balasubramaniam, who also stands accused of conspiring with Nisham.
George submitted a CD containing conversations between Krishnamoorthi and Commissioner Jacob Job, who was later suspended, to local government ministers and also played it before assembled media.
After playing the recordings, which contained conversations pertaining to the request of nearly Rs 5 lakh from Nisham, George said Balasubramaniam had stayed at the guest house of a textile-gold trader in Thrissur for three days after the attack on the security guard. The textile trader is a close friend of Nisham.
Balasubramaniam denied the allegations: “I have not asked anyone to talk on behalf of me. Let those who had raised the allegations explain such things. I have not acted with any grudge towards any officer.”
The CD also contained records of Krishnamoorthi talking to Job soon after Nisham’s arrest. Krishnamoorthi retired from active duty on February 28 and was immediately appointed as special officer for the proposed police university in Kerala. Job was transferred in the second week of February, after a probe determined he had held a meeting with Nisham.
According to The Indian Express, Chandrabose and two other security staffers were manning a checkpoint outside of the Nisham’s residential township when the tobacco, jewelry, and hotel mogul pulled up in his Hummer prior to seeking entry. When subjected to the precautionary routines of vehicle and identity verification, Nisham snapped, jumping out of the massive sports utility vehicle, smashing the glass windows to the guards’ kiosk, and then manically lunging after Chandrabose.
Security officers recounted that Chandrabose managed to run away and climb atop a fountain in front of the gate, but Nisham got back in his truck and maliciously smashed it into the structure, crushing his victim against the wall.
Police say Nisham then threw Chandrabose in the back of his Hummer, drove to his apartment complex half-a-kilometer away, and proceeded to call his wife, from whom he requested a firearm. When she arrived sans any sort of gun, Nisham drove into the parking area of his apartment complex and bludgeoned his victim repeatedly for nearly half-and-hour.
