Is Anushka Sharma becoming a handicap for Kohli?

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket team’s vice captain and dashing batsman Virat Kohli and his lady love, actress Anushka Sharma are yet again in the news for all the wrong reasons: this time for having missed the wedding of Indian cricket team’s all-rounder Suresh Raina, where almost all the members of India’s cricket team were present, including captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni with his family.
Kohli and Sharma were spotted and photographed – dressed in black to complement each other – walking out of the Mumbai Airport just a few hours ahead of the star-studded wedding which was attended by several notable personalities, including the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav.
It must be noted that in the days preceding Raina’s wedding to his childhood friend Priyanka Chaudhary this past Friday in New Delhi, Kohli and Sharma were seen in different parts of the capital together, including having dinner together at a restaurant. They had also arrived in New Delhi together, hand in hand in an adamant gesture, after India’s debacle in the semi-finals of the World Cup in Australia.
Kohli had shown terrible batting judgment in that match, and many blamed Sharma’s presence in the stands for his performance. Some critics also point out that poor luck has dogged Kohli whenever Sharma has tagged along to view his matches overseas, notably in England last year.
So what was the reasons for Kohli especially, and Sharma too, to miss Raina’s wedding and instead be in Mumbai on that day. The two had even attended the engagement ceremony of Raina which was held on April 1.
According to reports, Kohli missed Raina’s wedding due to a scheduled practice session of Royal Challengers Bangalore team that he captains for the upcoming season of IPL, which starts on Tuesday. But that seems absurd, considering all the other players, and several other international players too from the IPL were present. Did Kohli practice on his own at the nets?
It was also reported that Sharma met Kohli’s parents while they were in Delhi and found quality time to spend with them. Great! But perhaps the lovely actress should understand that for a man, his friends and colleagues are important too.
While the cricket and Bollywood fraternity is waiting for the glamorous couple to announce wedding plans, it’s becoming more and more obvious that Kohli is perhaps crumbling under the media and public glare that is focused on his personal relationship with Sharma.
It’s also apparent that he doesn’t have the maturity as yet to face the world normally and acknowledge to the world what is obvious to everybody else: that he is head over heels in love with Sharma. At present, he is trying hard to compartmentalize his personal and public life, without too much of a success.
It’s also likely that Kohli missed the wedding of Raina to avoid further spotlight on his relationship with Sharma, and to escape the stand-up comics who would have had a field day guffawing over how the Indian cricket team might have persuaded Kohli to marry Sharma on the same dais as Raina’s and ensure that he gets back into form.
Perhaps the dilemma for Kohli was how to attend Raina’s wedding on his own, without Sharma accompanying him. That would have set off another round of speculation as to if everything is ok between him and Sharma.
Whatever said and done, Kohli surely looks bad for missing the wedding of Raina, and he should be ashamed of it. It’s good for him and good for the Indian cricket team too, if Kohli just starts to behave a little bit normally in public, with or without Sharma.
Or perhaps, it was Sharma who warned Kohli not to go to Raina’s wedding without her. After watching NH 10, who would want to take ‘panga’ with her? Certainly not Kohli, who must have exacted some kind of promise from her in return that she would visit him in Bengaluru during the IPL.
