BENGALURU: The latest WhatsApp update for iPhones will bring the free voice-call option to users across the globe and the update roll out is expected to complete over the next several weeks.
According to the official statement of Apple iTunes, the latest update of WhatsApp, version 2.12.1, will bring the most touted calling feature to iPhones. Earlier, Android smartphones had received the update with call facility and since then iPhone users were expecting the update to hit their phones.
The iTunes store description reads, “Call your friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they’re in another country. WhatsApp calls use your phone’s Internet connection rather than your cellular plan’s voice minutes. Data charges may apply. Note: WhatsApp Calling is rolling out slowly over the next several weeks.”
The new WhatsApp update, for the first time will also make use of the iOS8 Extensions, allowing users to upload photos, videos and links to WhatsApp directly from camera, photo apps in iOS.
Users can also edit their contact from WhatsApp. After getting updated to the latest version of WhatsApp users can also send multiple videos and crop and rotate them before sending. Like in images, users will be able to add captions for the videos.
Earlier, the CEO of WhatsApp Jan Koum had announced that the popular messaging app has over 800 million users worldwide. Koum wrote on Facebook, “WhatsApp – now serving 800,000,000 monthly active users. Reminder for the press out there: active and registered users are not the same thing.”
