BENGALURU: Nexus 6 smartphone, co-developed by Google and Motorola Mobility, has once again stained the reputation of both companies. A Delhi-based woman has reported that her Nexus 6 exploded due to some technical issues with the battery.
Earlier, many Nexus 6 users had complained about fast battery drainage and many tech reviewers considered this as a major let off. Though Motorola and Google came out with a few patches and instructions for Nexus users, the issue didn’t show any signs of going away. Now, with the new report of battery exploding, it seems like the companies have done a big mistake in selecting the battery for Nexus 6.
Many Nexus 6 users had earlier complained about the battery swelling and in some cases even popping the back cover of the device. But, this is the first time that anybody has reported the device exploding.
A Nexus user named Monica Jasuja wrote on her twitter that her Nexus 6 “blew up”; fortunately, there was no fire but, the device is beyond usable. She also said that the device was lying unused and uncharged for some time. This should not be the cause of the battery explosion of a premium class smartphone that too manufactured by two of the most revered manufacturers.
There were very few online discussions about Nexus 6 battery issues; this is because the device itself was a big flop. That said, battery explosion is not something that can be ignored as it can lead to fire or even loss of life. Hopefully, Google and Motorola will come up with a solution for this soon.
Nexus 6 was one of the first premium smartphones to feature Android 5.0 Lollipop mobile operating system. The device has a 6 inch AMOLED display and is powered by a 2.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processors, coupled with 3 GB RAM.
The device sports a 13 MP rear camera with dual LED flash and a 2 MP front camera. Nexus 6 is backed up by a 3220 mAh battery that has now exploded. When launched the battery was one of the highlights of the device as its earlier version Moto X was severely criticized for its small battery.
Nexus 6 have connectivity options such as Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi, NFC, and 4G.
One of the main highlights of the Nexus 6 smartphone was its ability to play 4K videos. The Google Nexus 6 has a hand full of sensors like ambient light sensor, barometer to measure atmospheric pressure and a gryoscope for navigation and motion-based games.
