WASHINGTON, DC: More than 400 attendees helped raise more than $200,000 at Chetna’s 10th annual fundraising gala: ‘The Power of 10, Celebrating a Decade of Community Service’, in Addison, Texas.
PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi was the event’s keynote speaker and guest of honor. Tennis champion and philanthropist Vijay Amritraj served as the chief guest; and Ann Mukherjee, PepsiCo’s President of Global Snacks, emceed the gala, which took place on Saturday, April 25 at the InterContinental Hotel in Addison.
“This is the most Chetna has raised at any one event in our decade of existence,” said Chetna co-founder Ila Sarkar. “When such prolific and outspoken figures stand behind our cause and show their support, it sheds a whole new light on domestic violence. These monies will provide services to the hundreds of Dallas-Fort Worth women and children who have been suffering, as a result of violence in the home.”
In 2014, Chetna, which means “consciousness” in Sanskrit, provided life-saving resources to more than 200 women and children trying to escape their abusive relationships.
The non-profit organization’s services to the community include: confidential helpline; peer support; emergency shelter and transitional housing; legal and counseling referrals; community outreach; financial assistance, such as interest-free loans; rental assistance; advocacy; and employment assistance.
