BENGALURU: The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, which released its own version of custom Android OS named Oxygen last month has come up with a new OS called Hydrogen.
The new custom Android OS from OnePlus was announced on May 28 in Beijing and will be first updated in the company’s flagship device OnePlus One. The new Hydrogen OS is expected to make a complete revamp of its predecessor Oxygen. In the initial stage the OS will be available only for OnePlus One devices launched in China.
The release of Oxygen was intended for global users of OnePlus One as it faced legal issues due to a patent infringement suit filed by Micromax over the rights of Cyanogen OS. This prompted the Chinese maker to find a substitute that could replace Cyanogen OS. Currently, OnePlus One smartphones, including the US model, runs on Oxygen OS. The new OnePlus custom Android OS will soon hit China and is expected to address many bugs found in the Oxygen OS.
There are also reports that OnePlus is planning to launch its next flagship device, OnePlus Two sometime later this summer and if rumors are to be believed it will be shipped with OxygenOS.
A few days back OnePlus and Micromax Informatics came to a mutual consent after six months of legal wrangles over the rights of Cyanogen OS. According to a blog post that appeared in the official website of OnePlus, the fans of OnePlus One will receive regular updates as the legal proceedings have been resolved and the contentious cases withdrawn.
