Good for even obese men.

WASHINGTON, DC: A new study has revealed men who drink two to three cups of coffee per day or an equivalent amount of caffeine are 40 percent less likely to experience erectile dysfunction.
According to United Press International, caffeine causes the penile helicine arteries and cavernous smooth muscle to relax, increasing penile blood flow, which is what motivated researchers to gather the data. The data trend held true for men with most indicators of potential for ED, though not all of them.
“Specifically, the survey showed that men who consume 85 to 170 milligrams of caffeine per day are 42 percent less likely to experience ED, and those who consume 171 to 303 milligrams of caffeine per day were 39 percent less likely to experience it, as compared with men who consume 0 to 7 milligrams per day.”
That trend stuck among overweight, obese and hypertensive men, although not for those with diabetes, which is also a strong risk factor for ED, reported Relaxnews.
“Even though we saw a reduction in the prevalence of ED with men who were obese, overweight and hypertensive, that was not true of men with diabetes. Diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors for ED, so this was not surprising,” stated David S. Lopez, an assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) and co-author of the study.
The research — which was performed at UTHealth and published in PLOS ONE — utilized data gleaned from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
In the United States, 18.4 percent of men 20 years and older have ED, suggesting that more than 18 million men are affected. On average, caffeine is consumed by more than 85 percent of adults according to previous research cited by a University of Texas press release.
