NEW YORK: The Stamford Dollars for Scholars presented annual scholarships to 25 high school students on June 1, at a ceremony held at the University of Connecticut, Stamford, CT campus.
The meet was attended by Stamford Mayor David Martin and school superintend Winifred Hamilton. The scholarships were sponsored by local business establishments as well as many family foundations.
GOPIO-CT (Global Organization of People of Indian Origin-Connecticut chapter) joined as a sponsor from this year and presented a 4-year scholarship of $4,000 to Priya Gada, a graduate from The Academy of Information Technology and Engineering High School, in Stamford.
Gada is planning to do International Studies in George Washington University, Washington DC. The scholarship was presented by GOPIO-CT President Shelly Nichani and Stamford Dollars for Scholar President Garry Freeman.
The GOPIO-CT Scholarship Committee consisted of Sanjay Santhanam (Chairman), Hari Srinivasan, Joe Simon and Anita Bhat. Priya Easwaran coordinated GOPIO-CT effort with Dollar for Scholars.
GOPIO-CT plans to expand the annual scholarship to other parts of Connecticut in the coming years.
