WASHINGTON, DC: A 23-year old Indian national who was studying in Miami, Florida, was shot dead by robbers after he refused to hand them his iPhone.
According to reports, the student has been identified as Sai Kiran, who is a native of Hyderabad.
“Four rounds were fired at Sai Kiran at around 12:15 p.m. today. Some people came and asked for his iPhone but the assailants shot him after he refused,” Kiran’s uncle, Shravan Kumar, informed The Inquisitr on Sunday. “We received information from his friends that some people demanded his phone on which he was already talking. His friend on the other end of the call heard four rounds of gun shots being fired. We are awaiting more details.”
Oddly, U.S. media has failed to report on the incident. The Bangalore Mirror revealed Kiran had arrived in the United States only 43 days prior in order to get his Master’s degree. His family is appealing to the Indian government to have his body returned to them as soon as possible.
Just last week another Indian-origin man was fatally shot at a Quiznos in Sam Dimas, Calif.
“The employee gave over the money and he followed the suspect outside of the location. A struggle ensued in front of the store and the suspect shot the victim,” Sgt. Rebecca Rodriguez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, according to Los Angeles-based station KTLA.
A sign posted on the shop’s door described him as a “hard-working family man who brought people together,” reported KTLA. The notice also directed people to a fundraising site for the family on Youcaring.com. Along with his wife, Patel is survived by a son, daughter, and two grandchildren.
