BENGALURU: Touchscreen smartphones might have taken over the mobile market, but it’s not a secret that many still have a love for the old flip-phones that once ruled the industry with a variety of models. It seems like Samsung is once again going back to the basic to regain its market share that dwindled in the last one year.
According to Android Authority, a new flip-phone, model SM-G9198, manufactured by Samsung, has passed the China’s TEENA certification test, and might soon reach the hands of smartphone users who anticipated a high-end version of their favorite flip-phone.

Interestingly, the new flip-phone model of Samsung comes with a dual display, one inside and the other outside the phone. Both displays come with the same size and resolution – 3.91 inches and 768 x 1280, respectively, which essentially means that the display is sharp for the size.
The new Samsung G9198 flip-phone is powered by a Snapdragon 808 SoC chip with hexa-core processing capability at 1.8GHz. The same processor earlier appeared in LG G4 that gave somewhat similar performance offered by Qualcomm 810 processor.
The yet to be launched flip-phone has a 2GB RAM and an internal storage capacity of 16 GB with an option to expand it using a microSD card.
Adding to this, the device has 16 MP rear camera alongside with a 5MP front camera. Samsung has also added a new heart rate sensor which has never been used in any of the flip-phones till date.
The new flip smartphone has all features that certainly entice all users if they don’t mind having a small display. Looking at the specs, it seems like Samsung G9198 could find a place in the high-end section.
The SM-G9198 has a slew of connectivity features such as WiFi, Bluetooth and above all 4G LTE connectivity. It device runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system. The device measures 119.7×66.6×16.77mm, which like all other flip-phones is a bit thicker when compared to other smartphone devices that are now leading the market.
As of now, Samsung has not revealed the launch date of its new flip smartphone. Anyhow, the device is not expected to reach markets outside China unless the demand exceeds Samsung’s expectations.
