WASHINGTON, DC: The first major poll since the GOP primary debate last week has Trump continuing to belligerently hold strong at the head of the pack in Iowa, a state that is traditionally considered a litmus test for the rest of the country in terms of presidential support.
According to CNN/ORC via the Washington Post, Ben Carson has ascended to second place, while Scott Walker has slid to third after holding a sizable lead in the state for months. Carly Fiorina, winner of the pre-debate, jumped into fifth behind Ted Cruz.
Further breaking down the data, Trump is preferred almost four-to-one on issues related to the economy, with about 37 percent support, followed by Fiorina with 10 percent.
Trump is also preferred three-to-one on immigration at 35 percent support, with Ted Cruz, who echoed the same mantras on immigration as Trump during the debate, slotting into the next position with about 12 percent.
The billionaire is also seen as the best candidate to combat terrorism, with about 21 percent support compared to second place Cruz’s 13 percent.
Regarding who is most likely to change Washington, Trump came out on top again with close to 45 percent support. Carson notched second with less than 10 percent.
Issues Trump did not sweep included abortion, for which staunch pro-lifers Huckabee and Carson garnered the most support for with about 14 percent support.
On who best represents Republican values, he falls second to Carson, who had about 14 percent going for him. Trump was not far behind, however, sliding in at 12 percent.
The most telling poll question asked who would have the best chance of winning the general election, which Trump dominated with more than 20 percent of Iowa respondents giving him the nod.
