WASHINGTON, DC: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is currently leading a 19-member delegation of officials and businessmen on a 10-day trip to the U.S. and Canada in an effort to woo investors to his state.
One of the most notable results from the trip announced thus far came after Khattar met with Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy in Connecticut’s capital of Hartford on Aug. 18.
The two heads of their respective states agreed to develop long-term partnership between Haryana and Connecticut for sharing economic, social and cultural experiences, according to a press release. Malloy also assured the Chief Minister that he would champion investment in Haryana from Fortune 100 companies, 17 of which are located in Connecticut.
Malloy will be visiting Haryana early next year to scout for investment opportunities in the automotive- and precision-engineering sector.
During their talks, Khattar explained how the Western Peripheral Expressway, also known as Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, work on which has begun, would work to the advantage of investors. He also briefed Malloy on the efforts being made by the state government to set up an aviation hub in Haryana, including the Maintenance and Repair Operation (MRO) facility for the aircraft industry.
Malloy also shared his expertise in implementing medical care for the citizens of Connecticut and also discussed his efforts regarding job growth.
The Consul General of India, Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, said he planned to organize a Connecticut-based summit where he would host several industrialists from India to further explore possibilities for joint ventures and fields for collaboration.
“I would invite officers from Haryana to join in the deliberations for furthering investment opportunities,” he stated.
Another key facet of Khattar’s Connecticut visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Carrier Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Ltd., a subsidary of United Technologies Corp. that will see the company establish an additional plant for manufacturing air conditioners in Gurgaon.
The proposed manufacturing facility in Gurgaon will provide employment to more than 2,000 people besides bringing in investment worth $ 50 million.
The very same day in New York, Khattar appealed to the non-resident Indians (NRIs) in New York to step up and aid in the development of their paternal villages and support the efforts being made by the state government.
The NRIs could do so by participating in the “Adarsh Gram Yojana,” a national government plan that has been adopted by the state of Haryana, he said.
At yet another New York event during his whirlwind tour of the Northeast, Khattar said that in its 10-month tenure, the Haryana Government had formulated a new industrial policy. While people from India and the rest of the world connected to Haryana would invest under the policy, those from across the globe also consider Haryana an ideal state, whether they want to invest in a welfare project or achieve their targets by investing in an earning project, he stated.
He went on to explain that while Haryana is an agrarian state, and the establishment of agro-based industries will remain a priority, pharmaceutical, information technology, auto, defense production, and aerospace industries will also be focal points for economic expansion.
“Agro-industries are being set up in Haryana. Besides, Haryana will work further with major companies like IBM, Harley Davidson and Hollister, which have more than 1,000 projects, so that our industries can advance in an appropriate manner,” he added.
