Google X is spinning out its life sciences group into an independent company under Alphabet, Google’s new parent company.
In a Google+ post, Google co-founder Sergey Brin wrote that Andy Conrad, the head of Google Life Sciences, will be the CEO of the new company.
“While the reporting structure will be different, their goal remains the same,” Brin wrote in his post. “They’ll continue to work with other life sciences companies to move new technologies from early stage R&D to clinical testing — and, hopefully — transform the way we detect, prevent, and manage disease” he added.
Alphabet was formed recently making Google, the original company, into its subsidiary in order to expand the company beyond its image of being a search giant. The new company will work independently under Alphabet doing research and development in health technology.
“This is the type of company we hope will thrive as part of Alphabet and I can’t wait to see what they do next,” Brin wrote. The new life sciences company includes programmers, as well as people skilled in optics and oncology.
The Google X life sciences team earlier developed contact lens for monitoring blood glucose levels.
