It is not always that a Bollywood actor opens up his mind and reveals what type of role he doesn’t like to act. John Abraham, who has been out of the mainstream Bollywood cinema for the last two years, made a surprise statement to a news agency that he is not comfortable doing adult comedy films though these kinds of films have a market.
John Abraham told PTI in an interview: “I would not act and produce an adult comedy film. But that doesn’t mean I have a problem with it. I am not comfortable doing adult comedies… it is not in my DNA. That’s not my space.”
The actor also clarified that he didn’t have any distaste for comedy, which, according to him, is beautiful when people laugh and are made happy.
“Comedy, in general, is beautiful. To make people laugh is lovely. It feels great when people laugh and go home. I want to make people happy. I want to do something that is harmless,” he said.
The bold statement of the Madras Café actor comes at a time when Bollywood is criticized for too much vulgar comedy movies, which for some reason is finding the audience.
“There is nothing wrong with it. There is a market for everything and everybody has the right to make what they want. And everyone has the right to see what they want to see,” the 42-year-old actor told PTI.
He also stressed the importance of following guidelines while watching adult comedy movies that usually get an “A” certification, which essentially means children are forbidden from watching the movie.
“If an adult comedy is made, it gets an ‘adult certification’. So, there are guidelines according to which youngsters are not supposed to see it,” he said.
Abraham’s latest movie Welcome Back, which is a sequel of the 2007 hit Welcome, released on Friday. Welcome Back is an action comedy film directed by Anees Bazmee, and produced by Firoz Nadiadwala. The movie is getting mixed reaction from the audience as some criticize it for being an unabashed copy of Welcome.
