More than 1,000 Islamic clerics from India have issued a fatwa (religious decree) against the crimes against humanity by extremist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Terming the acts of ISIS as “un-Islamic”, about 1,050 muftis and imams from all over the country issued the fatwa against the terrorist group.
In a move to convey their views on the ISIS, the Indian Islamic leaders shared the fatwa, which is in 15 volumes, to United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon and world other leaders on August 15.
“In a fitting reply, more than a 1,000 muftis and imams stated that it is absolutely un-Islamic and inhuman,” said Dr Abdul Rahim Anjaria, president of Islamic Defence Cyber Cell and chief adviser of Darul Uloom Ali Hasan Ahle Sunnat.
“We, the people of India, request the secretary general to uphold this fatwa as an example to the world” Anjaria wrote in the petition.
The prominent imams that signed the fatwa include Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, Ulema Council of India, Ajmer Dargah, Nizamuddin Aulia Dargah, Darul Uloom Mohammadiya, Jamiatul Ulema Maharashtra, Jamiat Ahle Hadees Mumbai, Raza Academy, All India Tanzeem Ammay-e-Masjid, Aamil Sahab Dawoodi Bohra, Sayed Zahir Abbas Rizvi Zainabya and Moin Ashraf Sahab Kachocha Dargah.
