Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be in the United States on the occasion of 70th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York, will have several other programs to attend in the country.
He is set to address a huge gathering of more than 20,000 Indian Americans at the SAP Center in San Jose, California on September 27, during a two-day trip to the West Coast.
This is the first time in three decades that an Indian prime minister is visiting the West Coast, and the diaspora is eagerly awaiting the historic event. There will be several other gatherings and addresses, for which the preparations are underway.
Apart from meeting with the Indian American entrepreneurs, Modi is also scheduled to meet with many top tech leaders in the Silicon Valley with an aim to push the Indian government’s initiatives such as “Make in India” and “Digital India” campaigns.
Three top Indian American technology leaders who will meet the Indian prime minister are Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Adobe Systems President & CEO Shantanu Narayen.
Modi is likely to visit Googleplex in Mountain View, the Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto and the factory floor of Tesla in Fremont, where he will meet with Elon Musk, the CEO of the Tesla Motor.
Online Q&A session at Facebook
Recently, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg invited Modi to the Facebook headquarters . There will be a live online Q&A session with him on the occasion, it is learnt. Earlier, Zuckerberg had met Modi during his visit to India.
“I’m excited to announce that Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India will be visiting Facebook HQ later this month for a Townhall Q&A. I had the chance to visit Prime Minister Modi in India last year and it’s an honor to have the chance to host him here at Facebook,” Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.

According to the Times of India, JP Morgan will arrange an exclusive meet for 15 CEOs from the financial sector with Modi. Moreover, Time Inc will host a dinner with 100 CEOs specializing in infrastructure and manufacturing.
Meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook
The prime minister is also said to be meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook during his trip. This meet will help Modi show his ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ dreams to convince the Cupertino-based tech giant to invest in manufacturing and R&D in India.
Apart from the popular “Make in India” and “Digital India” initiatives, Modi will be discussing the topic of renewable energy during his US visit. A roundtable on renewable energy is expected at Stanford University, Palo Alto.
He is also likely to discuss renewable energy with US President Barack Obama whom he meets in New York on September 28.
