Carson is unfit to lead: CAIR.
By Raif Karerat
Prominent Muslim advocacy group CAIR (Council on American–Islamic Relations) called for retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson to withdraw from the 2016 presidential race after his comment over the weekend that he would not support a Muslim for president.
“Mr. Ben Carson is wrong today to assume and say that American Muslims should not be president of the U.S.,” Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said at a news conference Monday. “We ask Mr. Ben Carson to withdraw from the presidential race because he is unfit to lead because his views are in contradiction with the U.S. Constitution,” he continued.
The GOP candidate also said Islam, as a religion, was inconsistent with the Constitution. Carson remarked to NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he believed a president’s faith should matter “depending on what that faith is.”
“I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that,” Carson said. “If it’s [a president’s faith] inconsistent with the values and principles of America, then of course it should matter,” he stated.
On Monday, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana released a statement pertaining to the notion of a Muslim U.S. president Monday after previously calling any such hypothetical questions a “dumb game.”
In what a condescendingly glib posting on his website, Jindal described exactly what sort of Muslim president he believes could be fit to lead the United States:
If you can find me a Muslim candidate who is a Republican, who will fight hard to protect religious liberty, who will respect the Judeo-Christian heritage of America, who will be committed to destroying ISIS and radical Islam, who will condemn cultures that treat women as second class citizens and who will place their hand on the Bible and swear to uphold the Constitution, then yes, I will be happy to consider voting for him or her. If you can’t, I’ll settle for voting for a Christian Governor from Louisiana.
