A 32-year-old man from Hyderabad has been found to be duping Flipkart, a leading e-commerce portal in India, for over Rs. 2 million.
Veera Swamy allegedly duped the company by making multiple orders from different accounts and later returning fake items, said a report by Bangalore Mirror.
Swamy used a tactic of placing orders for valuable electronic items and calling the customer care to inform that the items were of bad quality. And when the company representatives came to pick the items back, he would retain the actual item received and return the box with some fake item.
He is said to have created a multiple fake email accounts for placing the orders and made the bookings from different bank accounts in the name of his mother, father, wife, brothers and other known people in the neighbourhood.
Swamy is found to have made more than 200 purchases in different names in the last 20 months.
In a police complaint, the company said that it has incurred a loss of over Rs 2 million, the report said.
The Vanasthalipuram police are investigating the case.
