Bollywood Superstar Aamir Khan along with director Rohit Shetty have financially assisted the ailing filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, who has been diagnosed with a malignant tumor in her kidney.
Lajmi, who has directed critically acclaimed movies such as Rudaali and Daman which place women and the problems faced by them as the central theme, is currently under financial crisis, and not even able to get her tumor treated.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit informed Aamir and Rohit about the current situation of the veteran director and soon both decided to help her in the most difficult times in her life.
Pandit told PTI, “I am associated with Indian Film and Television Director’s Association and we do approach actors and directors for financial help whenever needed. After I learnt about her health, I spoke to Aamir Khan and Rohit Shetty. Kiran (Kiran Rao, filmmaker and Aamir’s wife) met her and gave Rs six lakh,”.
He added “Rohit Shetty has given Rs two lakh. Within 24 hours they helped her. It is very nice of them… If needed, we will talk to more people after a few months.”
Lajmi is under medical care at the Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and she is undergoing dialysis three times a week.
