Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan has been announced as India’s brand ambassador for ‘The world’s largest lesson’, a sustainability campaign launched by the Global Goals campaign and UNICEF.
For the campaign, Hrithik joins international public figures like Nobel peace prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, Neymar Jr, Freida Pinto, Dani Alves, Kolo Toure, UNICEF ambassadors Nancy Ajram, Serena Williams and eminent advocate for UNICEF, Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan.
‘The world’s largest lesson’, aims to teach children in over 100 countries about new sustainable development goals.
“The campaign will do more than teach children about the global goals. It will engage them in the effort to achieve those goals – educating them about the challenges that are shaping their futures and encouraging them to drive change in their own communities,” said UNICEF executive director Anthony Lake in a statement.
“Young people can help achieve the global goals by holding their leaders accountable for the promises they are making – and by holding themselves accountable for building a better future for everyone”, he added.
The campaign is also supported by Indian NGOs, the Akshaya Patra Foundation, which provides midday meal to 1.4 million children every day, and Magic Bus, a charity that enables some of the poorest families in the world to move out of poverty through their special sports based curriculum and mentoring model, reaching 300,000 children in India.
Specially created lesson materials include an animated film by author and education expert Ken Robinson that introduces the Global Goals, and a downloadable comic book by Josh Elder, Karl Kesel and Grace Allison.
“The World’s Largest Lesson is a fantastic opportunity to tell all children, everywhere what the Global Goals are and how they can play their part to make sure they are achieved,” said Richard Curtis, founder of the campaign.
