A few days after it officially became Alphabet, Google is found to have owned the domain abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.com, that contains the entire alphabets of English language. Ownership of the URL was discovered by domaininvesting.com in Whois Records.
The domain name was created in 1999 and was owned privately. Google didn’t reveal anything about the deal, but reports say that the domain is worth an estimated $2719.
Google announced their new holding company Alphabet in August with the domain name abc.xyz. The domain alphabet.com is owned by BMW and abc.com is owned by TV network ABC. So the purchase is considered as a move to protect the domain connected with Alphabet.
Along with goole.com, Alphabet also owns gogle.com that allows people to access the search engine even if the name is misspelt. The company also owns some more domains such as googlesucks.com in order to prevent rivals from using them against it.
The site is currently not working. Elliot Silver from domaininvesting.com said that “it would seem wise for the company to forward it (abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.com) to the Alphabet website.
Many of the domains related with alphabet are also registered. “I did a random search of other domain names that have parts of the alphabet and most seem to be registered. I also checked the full alphabet in other extensions, and it looks like many of those are registered as well. Several of the main extensions were registered prior to the Google news about Alphabet. I didn’t notice any that were registered to Google, although I admittedly didn’t spend much time looking”, Silver added.
