His Lungi dance was mind-blowing and his speech as romantic as his movies – Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan mesmerised the audience at prestigious University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom on October 15.
Khan was there to receive an honorary doctorate from the university in recognition of his outstanding record of philanthropy, altruism and humanitarianism and his global reach as an actor.
UK Princess Anne, sister of Prince Charles and celebrated crime writer Ian Rankin attended the function crowded by a huge audience including students and faculty.
On the occasion, Khan delivered a lecture on ‘My biggest learning is life is the only miracle’.
“Madness (of the particularly nice/romantic kind) is an absolute prerequisite to a happy and successful life. Don’t ever treat your little insanities as if they are aberrations that ought to be hidden from the rest of the world. All the most beautiful people in the world, the most creative, the ones who led revolutions, who discovered and invented things, did so because they embraced their own idiosyncrasiesâ€, said Khan, according to NDTV report.
“Art is more important than the artist – have no attachment to your own art – it’s regressive, move onâ€.

“I never imagine myself to confer an honour like this by such a prestigious university. It’s extremely humbling. I just take a pause and say this is not happening to me, I am aware that it’s not only because of my individual effortâ€, he added.
“I am a doctor all over again. Her royal highness and Prof. Jeffery and Smith and all your colleagues’ thank you for the degree of doctor Honoris Causa†– Khan tweeted after the function.
“The University of Edinburgh has very strong ties with India and I am delighted that we are able to welcome one of the most outstanding stars of world cinema,†said Prof. Charlie Jeffery, senior vice principal of the University.
It is Khan’s second honorary doctorate from a university. Earlier, he had received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bedfordshire.
