People magazine has named soccer superstar David Beckham as the sexiest man alive for the year 2015. American television host Jimmy Kimmel announced the title on his ABC show.
“It’s a huge honour,” said the 40-year-old footballer told the magazine. “I’m very pleased to accept”.
Expressing his surprise, Beckham told, “I never feel that I’m an attractive, sexy person.”
“I thought I was past my sell by date but thanks to People.com for the accolade and the compliment! I always feel a little shy when receiving these Awards, though it will make my Mum happy. This one the kids will laugh at, as they see what Daddy looks like in the morning!” Beckham wrote on his Facebook page.
The former English footballer had announced his retirement in May 2013 after a 20-year career, during which he won 19 major trophies. Other than football, the humble British heartthrob is well known for his hairstyle fashion and stylish clothing.

When Beckham shared the news with his wife, fashion mogul Victoria Beckham was totally onboard. “I would hope that she feels this way about me all the time anyway!” he said, “But she said, ‘Congratulations!’”
“We kind of laughed about it with the boys, and the boys kind of laughed at me and said, ‘Really?! Sexiest man alive? Really?’” Beckham explained about his family’s reaction. Victoria and Beckham run numerous businesses in Fashion and clothing and David Beckham body-wear and fashion clothing are trending in the global fashion market.
Beckham is the first professional athlete to win the Sexiest Man Alive title by the magazine since it started in 1985. Australian actor Chris Hemsworth crowned the title in 2014.
Some of the earlier recipients of the title are Brad pit, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum and Adam Levine.
