Police in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, are yet to arrest the culprits behind the brutal gang rape and murder of a 17-year old girl 24 hours after the incident came to their notice.
People of Guru Sikran village in Aligarh allegedly attacked two inspectors and constables who reached the spot for recovering the body of the victim. This prompted the authorities to deploy more teams of police in the area to avoid untoward incidents. According to The Hindustan Times, the angry villagers also damaged a vehicle while protesting on Wednesday.
Police have registered a case against four men for allegedly raping and killing the girl, but they are yet to arrest a single culprit.
“The post-mortem examination report will confirm whether or not the girl was raped,” superintendent of police Sansar Singh told the Times.
According to the police, the four men stopped the girl, a class 11 student, on her way to a tuition class, and forced her into a sugarcane field between Guru Sikran and Dasna villages before raping her and later strangling her with her own clothes.
According to sources, the incident was first reported by another student of the same tuition class, who saw the rape and informed the villagers who reached the spot to find the girl murdered.
The body was recovered only after Aligarh senior superintendent of Police J Ravinder Gaur reached the village and calmed the villagers. He has also announced a reward of Rs. 25,000 to anyone providing information about the culprits. In the meanwhile, a team of four policemen has been constituted to crack the case, added Gaur.
