It’s become annual practice for social media websites to publish the list of most discussed topics of the year.
As the world gets ready to usher in 2016, the world’s most popular social media website Facebook has released its list of most discussed topics of 2015.
The list was published after analyzing the number of conversations and activities of users regarding a particular topic.
Facebook’s top 10 global topics
The topics in the list have been discussed aplenty in 2014 as well, including such as the US presidential election and the Paris attack. The majority of the trending topics in Facebook are negative issues – terrorist attacks, protests and crisis.
Here are the top 10 global topics:

3. Syrian Civil War and Refugee Crisis
4. Nepal Earthquakes
5. Greek Debt Crisis
6. Marriage Equality
7. Fight Against ISIS

Facebook top 10 India topics
When it comes to India, the most discussed topic is prime minister Narendra Modi, who has been on a travel spree through the year. Modi, during his last visit to the US, had visited Facebook HQ. Other reasons that gave Modi the first spot are hismonogrammed suit, myriad foreign visits, and even his silence on controversial subjects such as Dadri lynching. Other than Modi, Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone also made it to the top 10.

Methodology
Year in Review top 10 lists were measured by how frequently a topic was mentioned in Facebook posts made between January 1 and December 1, 2015. To put this list together, Facebook posts were analyzed in an aggregated, anonymized way, and then ranked to create a snapshot of the year on Facebook.
