Police have arrested a youth from the Malappuram district of Kerala for posting derogatory comments about Lt. Col. Niranjan E Kumar, who laid his life for the country while defusing a bomb during the Pathankot Airbase attack.
According to police, 24-year-old Anwar Sadiq was arrested from his house in Malappuram after his Facebook post came under the attack of people who demanded action against the account holder.
ACP Jossy Cherian confirmed, “He (Anwar Sadiq) works with a ration shop as a salesman and has confessed to his crime. We are investigating whether he has got some connection with some fundamentalist outfits.”
The Facebook status posted by Anwar Sadiq read: “So, another trouble maker is also gone. Now the government will pay and give a job to his wife and we commoners get nothing. Such a stinking Indian democracy.”
The fake id through which Anwar posted the status suggested that he was working with one of the popular Malayalam daily called Madhyamam, but the media firm had denied the claim. The police traced the origin of the post by tracking the mobile phone used for posting the status.
Officials said he has been charged under Sec 124 (A) of the Indian Penal Code as his comments are of an anti-national nature. He faces a maximum punishment of life in prison, if convicted.
The body of Lt. Col. Niranjan E Kumar was cremated at his village in Palakkad District with Army and police personals paying tribute to the dead soldier. Hundreds of villagers and political leaders also paid homage to the NSG commando who risked his life protecting the country.
