An Indian man working as a clerk at a liquor store in Fresno, California, Gurcharn Gill, 68, was attacked and killed by unidentified assailant(s), on new year’s day, making him the first homicide victim of the year in the city.
ABC News revealed the name of Gill as the victim of the attack which in under investigation.
The owner of the store told ABC that Gill stabbed to death on January 1. Investigators haven’t confirmed that Gill was stabbed but say he did show signs of trauma.
The Fresno Bee reported Gill was discovered at the Shields Express Mart at 1107 W. Shields Ave., just east of West Avenue, said Lt. Mindy Casto.
Police, along with emergency medical services, arrived minutes later and tried to treat the man. They determined that Gill had died before arrival, Casto said.
It was not known if Gill was a turbaned Sikh and the attack was a hate crime, or arose from a robbery attempt gone awry.
