Vaid has impressed all the judges.AB Wire
Indian American singer from Martha’s Vineyard, Sonika Vaid, who has impressed all the judges and some celebrity singers, including Carrie Underwood, booked her ticket to Hollywood after performing in this week’s episode of ‘American Idol’.
Vaid, who is originally from Weston, Massachusetts, glided through the first group challenge and performed a perfect group rendition of Ariana Grande’s “Problem” after a rocky rehearsal, reported MassLive.com.
Vaid, whose audition was called “a perfect performance” by Harry Connick Jr., received her ticket to Hollywood and gained fans quickly, including “American Idol” alumnus Carrie Underwood.
On the first night of Hollywood Week, both Vaid and Jessica Cabral, of Worcester, advanced during the show’s first Hollywood Week round. In their group of 10, only two contestants were sent home.
The first problem for Vaid came when practicing for a group performance. Vaid’s group, comprised of contestants Stephany Negrete, Andrew Nazarbekian and Antalia Villaranda, picked the song “Problem,” but Villaranda switched groups because the song did not fit her voice.
In rehearsal, the group of three took strong criticism from “American Idol associate music director Michael Orland.
Despite stumbles in rehearsals, the group executed a perfect performance, and all three moved on to the next round, reported MassLive.com.
The final season of American Idol will continue on Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. on FOX.
