Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan has been fined around $2850 for illegally constructing a concrete ramp in front of his bungalow ‘Mannat’ in Bandra, Mumbai.
A Right to Information (RTI) question asked by the activist Anil Galgali revealed that the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation had fined the actor for the illegal construction, on which he used to park his vanity van.
The penalty imposed was the cost incurred by the Municipal Corporation to demolish the construction.
Galgali asked authorities about the action taken by the corporation against the construction and the cost incurred in the process. In the reply given by Municipal Corporation Assistant Engineer (Inspection) of Bandra West ward, it is stated that they had issued a seven days’ notice to Khan on February 6 last year.
After expiry of the notice period, the corporation demolished the ramp on February 14-15 using its own money. Then they issued another notice asking him to pay the cost of demolition within seven days or face legal proceedings under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act (MMC), 1888.
The actor paid the money through a check within seven days and settled the issue.
Last year, the residents of the area had blamed Khan for constructing the ramp encroaching public land, which blocked the entry to nearby Mount Mary Basilica. The construction was done in 2014.
