According to various news reports, a Rochester city judge was arrested by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol after she was intercepted while on her way to the court for scheduled arraignments.
Sandra Doorley, the District Attorney of Monroe County said to media that Judge Leticia Astacio was arrested on Saturday morning after the New York State police pulled her over on Interstate 490.
According to the troopers who were sent for mission involving a one-car accident, Astacio refused to take a Breathalyzer test after police suspected her of her taking the driving seat after being drunk.
The police let Judge Astacio leave not before slapping her with a ticket to appear before the court in March. When media tried contacting Astacio, a democrat who was appointed as a judge in 2014, she was not available for an immediate response.
According to the attorney, the Judge was on her way to chair the criminal court when the police intercepted her and took her into brief custody. Due to her unavailability, another judge had to be called in to her the cases.
The official spokesperson of the district court refused to comment on the arrest of the judge.
According to Rocheter Democrat and Chronicle, Astacio, before being appointed as the judge was a district attorney in the Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Bureau and later a defence practitioner. Strangely, even before that, she was working with the Monroe County District’s Office as part of their drunken driving bureau.
