A 15-year old boy was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by three men in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The body of the boy, Abhay Modani, was found stuffed in a carton near a hotel in Secunderabad.
His hands and legs were tied with a rope.
The police have arrested three men who are the suspects, reported The Times of India. The report said that they were arrested from Vijayawada following an investigation based on their mobile phone usage. But there is no official confirmation regarding the arrests.
The kidnappers had called the boy’s father Raj Kumar, a scrap dealer, and demanded $1,470,000 as ransom.
The boy went missing on Wednesday evening after he left home in Begum Bazar for getting food. The family then filed a complaint with Shahinayathgunj police station on the same day.
When they were searching for the boy, Raj Kumar received a call from the abductors and they demanded ransom. He requested them that he cannot raise that much money and appealed them to leave his son.
The kidnappers again called him and demanded $735,000. Expressing his inability to raise that much money, Kumar offered them $7352 in cash and $14,700 worth gold and begged them to release Modani.
But the gang didn’t accept the offer and threatened, “What rubbish are you talking. If you want safe return of your son, arrange at lease Rs. 5 crore and send the cash to the Secunderabad railway station and your son will be released by 6 am on Thursday.”
The boy’s body was found the next morning.
The police had formed 10 special teams to search for the boy. CCTV footage had shown the boy travelling with a man who is supposed to be one of the kidnappers, on a scooter.
The police suspect that the abductors are Raj Kumar’s former employees.
