In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old man bludgeoned his two-year-old stepdaughter to death with a rolling pin in Delhi’s Seelampur area, on Saturday.
The accused, Nariz Sheikh, was sleeping in his room in their house in Shastri Park. He was disrupted when his stepdaughter Sauraiya, who was also lying in the same room, started crying.
Agitated, Sheikh got up and tried to make her sleep again. But that didn’t work and then he started beating Sauraiya on her face and chest. But the girl started crying louder. Then he picked up a rolling pin from the kitchen and bludgeoned her to death.
Sheikh’s wife, Firdausi Begum (26), was away from home when the incident happened.
“All of a sudden, the child started crying. First, Sheikh tried to make her sleep again but failed. He got frustrated and shouted at the girl after which she started crying even louder. When he didn’t find his wife at home, he got upset and started hitting the child, asking her to shut up,” police said.
Sauraiya’s 10-year-old brother Rahul rant out of the house and notified the neighbors. But the girl had collapsed and was lying in a pool of blood when the neighbors reached the house.
Neighbors informed the police and the police have arrested Sheikh and a case of murder has been registered against him.
“The accused has been arrested on the charge of murder. The girl’s body has been sent for postmortem examination and the 9-year-old boy’s statement has been recorded,” police said.
Some locals allegedly beat up Sheikh before the police arrested him.
Sheikh is a rickshaw puller and Begum is working as domestic help.
