The Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda-starrer biopic movie Sarabjit is slated to release on May 20.
Wrapping up the shooting of the film, director Omung Kumar confirmed the release date. Kumar took it to Twitter and posted a selfie with the crew members and wrote: “#SARBJIT WRAPPED:) @Vanita_ok @SandeepSinghOne @RichaChadha_ #AishwaryaRai @RandeepHooda @DarshanKumaar 20th may.”
The movie revolves around the life of Sarabjit Singh who was an Indian farmer and convicted of terrorism in Pakistan and died at Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, in 2013 following an attack by fellow inmates in prison.
Hooda will be playing the role of Sarabjit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be essaying the role of Sarabjit Singh’s sister, Dalbir Kaur.
Hooda had lost 18 kg in 28 days to transform himself into Sarabjit.
“He cut down on his meals, filling up on coffee and water, even when we were shooting in Palghar and gorging on some great food. In his years in jail, Sarabjit was kept in a 4 x 4 room and had rat bites all over him. The first time I met Randeep, I told him that I wanted to see his bones. He took up the challenge and shocked even me,” director Kumar said.
Earlier, a local court in Chandigarh had dismissed a petition seeking prevention of shooting and release of the film.
Since the subject is a sensitive one, it is feared that the film may be banned in Pakistan.
