After a successful reign in Kollywood, actor Karthi has made a strong entry into Tollywood as well, after his film with co-star Nagarjuna ‘Oopiri’, declared as a blockbuster.
Oopiri is the Telugu remake of the French comedy-drama “The Untouchables”, directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, staring François Cluzet and Omar Sy.
In the meanwhile, the movie has reached the million-dollar club in the US crossing one million in the first week and for Nagarjuna, this is his second movie to reach the $1 million club after ‘Manam’.
According to reports, the initial few days weren’t encouraging for the movie as there were fewer advanced bookings and people coming into the theatres in the morning. But good word of mouth about the movie helped for it to be a box office success.
The latest update about the movie suggest that Bollywood producer and director Karan Johar has bought the rights to remake the movie.
The story develops in the backdrop of an affectionate relationship between a quadriplegic millionaire played by Nagarjuna and a middle-class youth played by Karthi.
Nagarjuna on Wednesday evening met the real life paraplegics and had a conversation with them. During the event he said, “”I know how much of a problem it is for those who are wheel-chair bound. It’s because my mother suffered from arthritis for eight years. I felt unhappy watching her in that condition. By working for this film, I realized that medicine is for the body, not for the mind. Those who are wheel-chair bound are not disabled persons, but differently-abled persons.”
“Oopiri” has collected Rs 29 crore gross at the worldwide box office in the first weekend.
