The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, who are on a week-long visit to India and Bhutan, on Monday made dosa, South India’s favorite snack.
The visiting royal family successfully completed their first ever dosa-making attempt, thanks to Dosamatic, the dosa maker designed by a Bengaluru-based company. Prince William poured the battered rice mix into the machine and Kate pressed a few buttons.
After a minute, a crisp dosa came out of the machine and Prince William tasted it and said “Namaste Mumbai! Thank you for the dosa experience. It is going to be more filling next time.”
Going by the usual norms of the royal family, they are not accustomed to taking food in the public but this time, it seems like Prince William could not resist his temptation for the hot crisp dosa.
After taking a small bite from the first ever dosa that he prepared, Dosamatic’s CEO Eshwar K Vikas told Prince William that dosa is a very popular dish in India which is very similar to crepe pancakes consumed in Britain.
In the meanwhile, Duchess Kate Middleton was more intrigued about the device that made the dosa. She asked many questions regarding the functioning of the Dosamatic.
Vikas said that the machine used by the royal family to prepare dosa will soon reach households. He also added that his three-year-old company has been serving dosas to big hotels and corporate clientele but using bigger machines.
The CEO of Dosamatic also said that there are 500 bigger versions of the machines used in hotels and now the Indian Angel Network-funded company look forward to launching the residential version of the same through the Series A funding.
The estimated cost of a Dosamatic will be around Rs 12,500.
