Together Forever. That’s what Anil Kharabanda, 62, of Southlake, Texas, wrote on his Facebook page to a photograph he posted of himself with his beautiful wife, Neeta Kharabanda, 58. The couple looked happy, relaxed, successful in life. That was on December 22, 2014.
On Tuesday, April 12, Kharabanda shot dead his wife at their house, and then turned the gun upon himself, committed suicide.
A family member summoned police officers to the Kharabandas’ home around 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the 400 block of Thistle Court. Police found the bodies inside a bedroom, reported WFAA 8, affiliate of ABC News. Property records show the Kharabandas resided at 403 Thistle Court.
“Preliminary evidence indicates that the male shot the female and then himself,” a written statement from Southlake police said, adding that no “outstanding suspects” were being sought. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office identified the deceased as Anil Kharabanda and Neeta Kharabanda.
The Dallas Morning News reported that court records cite tension in the couple’s relationship. They married in 1980 but were involved in divorce proceedings twice. Neeta Kharabanda submitted petitions seeking a divorce in 2003 and 2011, but filed documents later on to say she didn’t want to pursue the cases.
A LinkedIn profile shows that Anil Kharabanda’s last job was as a Health Actuary in the pharmaceuticals industry in Southlake, Texas, though it could not be verified if it indeed was the deceased. LinkedIn also shows a Neeta Kharabanda in Southlake, Texas, as having worked in the financial services sector for Chase. There were no details if the couple had any children.
A Southlake spokeswoman said Tuesday’s murder-suicide is the first murder in the city since the May 2013 slaying of lawyer Juan Jesus Guerrero Chapa, who had represented a former drug cartel chief. Chapa was ambushed by gunmen as he and his wife shopped at Southlake Town Square.
There was yet another shocking multiple murder-suicide case in Texas, last month.
The Herald Democrat reported a man, Malachi Russler, 36, shot and killed his wife and two boys, then he turned the gun on himself.
Police found Kelly Russler, 39; Laing Russler, 7; and Jayden Evans, 10; shot to death inside their Rivercrest Drive home. Police said the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Officer confirmed the police investigation findings.
“A fourth individual, 36-year-old Malachi Russler was also found dead inside the home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the statement said. “Based on the information we have, we consider the investigation closed.”
There was marital discord going on, and probably a custody battle too, records showed. The divorce petition Kelly Russler filed in December shows that the couple was married in September of 2010.
