The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will soon come up with the facility that enables foreigners and NRIs to book train tickets for domestic travels from abroad, reported Press Trust of India (PTI).
Foreigners and NRIs can use their credit or debit card issued by foreign banks to book tickets. They are now seeking the help of travel agencies to book train tickets for domestic travel.
IRCTC is making changes in the current system and website to enable foreign transactions. They are also working to solve some issues with the website.
“Our aim is to facilitate foreigners and NRIs hassle-free ticket booking facility and Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been instructed to do the needful,” a senior railway ministry official told PTI.
Foreigners and NRIs can book tickets for regular train services, Buddhist circuit trains, and luxury services like ‘Palace on Wheel’, and ‘Maharaja.’ The service is expected to be operational by the end of this month.
The organization has also incorporated some security measures in the website to prevent misuse. Earlier IRCTS had the system that helps foreigners’ book tickets from abroad. But it was withdrawn later after some cases of misuse were spotted.
IRCTC website can now issue up to 15,000 tickets per minute.
