The Agra division of Government Railway Police (GRP) has come up with a decision to book those taking a selfie near trains, reported The Times of India.
According to a new circular issued by the police, anybody taking selfies near trains at the platform, in moving train near entrance/exit door or on railway tracks will be booked under sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Indian Railways Act.
The decision came after the death of three youth and a 45-year-old man when they were taking a selfie in front of a railway track in Mirzapur and Saharanpur districts, on April 15.
“From now on, if anyone is founding taking selfie close to high-speed train or railway track, than the act of him/her will be treated as attempt to suicide and he/she will definitely be booked and may even be jailed for endangering their lives and others,” Deputy Superintendent of police for GRP Agra division, Raj Kumar Gautam told The Times of India.
“On April 15, three boys and one man were killed in Mirzapur and Saharanpur districts. In Mirzapur, two friends (18 & 20) who had come for the local fair were taking selfie close to railway track when high-speed New Delhi-Dibrugarh (Brahmaputra mail) mowed down the duo. From the same train, a 45-year-old passenger who was watching the duo taking selfie fell under the wheels of the train and was killed instantly. In Saharanpur a class X student was mowed down by the train while taking a selfie near unmanned railway crossing,” he added.
People violating the rules will have to face the charges under IPC section 307 (attempt to suicide) or section 145 in of Railways Act if caught by Railway Protection Force.
