Former Govt. of India Secretary and a member of UN Habitat Housing Expert Committee Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose’s book ‘Parpidam’ (Housing), written in Malayalam, was released at the Kerala Center, in Elmont, New York.
The Center, which was established 26 years ago, was the first one to be established as a secular community center. Bose was the chief guest at the Center’s anniversary program over the weekend which included colorful dances by Malayalam language students, according to a press release.
The book, published by Kerala Bhasha Institute, is also in Hindi and English. Bose put together this book looking at the housing constructions in over 50 countries in 30 years. Housing have been covered from the time of caveman to contemporary times. The 302 page book is illustrated with colorful photos by Nemam Pushparaj.
An eminent administrator, writer, orator and innovator, Bose pioneered path breaking administrative innovations in rural development, affordable housing, eco-tourism development, redressal of public grievances, women’s empowerment, development of weaker sections of society and promotion of art and culture.
Bose served as Chairman of the Atomic Energy Education Society and also launched the ASTER Project (Application of Science & Technology in Educational Reforms). After retirement, the Indian government asked him to continue with this mission and currently serves as the Chairman and Nominee Director of Central Warehousing Corporation.
The book was released by Prof. Ponisseril Somasundaran, Distinguished Professor of Engineering at Columbia University, by presenting a copy to Kerala Center President Thambi Talappillil and Kerala Center Chairman of Board Dr. Madhu Bhaskaran. Kerala Center’s Founder Member and Trustee Dr. Thomas Abraham, who is also the founder president of the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO), conducted the book release.
This is the first time a book from the Kerala Bhasha Institute has been released outside Kerala, before being released in Kerala.
