The next time you ‘play’ with an image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, beware! You could end up in jail.
That’s exactly what happened to a youth from Karnataka’s Gangavathi town in Koppala district, who was arrested after he uploaded a fake image of PM Modi on Facebook, reported The Times of India.
The report says that Mohammed Mahboob was arrested by the police after a local BJP unit filed a complaint against him in a police station.
The edited image of Narendra Modi seeking blessings from Akbaruddin Owaisi, brother of AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, was allegedly posted on Sunday.
The image went viral on social media and it stirred uproar in Gangavathi town with BJP leaders of the town accusing Mahboob of editing the image of Modi with Advani.
Back in 2014, a youth from Goa was arrested after he posted an anti-Narendra Modi comment on Facebook. The ruling BJP government f Goa had back then said that it was part of a larger game plan to promote communal and social disharmony in the state.
Two girls were arrested in Mumbai after the funeral of Balasaheb Thackeray after they wrote a post on Facebook asking why people should observe a bandh as like him people are born and die daily.
In both those cases, the accused were charged under the provisions of Section 66A of the I-T Act which states punishment for sending offensive messages through communication service.
Interestingly, a few RTIs filed by anit-BJP activists had early revealed that a few images used by the Modi camp during the 2014 election were fake, the prominent one being a black and white image of Modi sweeping the floor, wearing the RSS uniform. Also, a few images of Beijing city were used by BJP publicists to showcase development in Ahmadabad but it was revealed by observers.
