Google just released a new app called spaces that focuses on group sharing. The spaces app lets people get people together instantly to share around any topic and allows users to find and share articles, videos and images without leaving the app, since Google Search, YouTube, and Chrome come built in.
They can also have conversation around that content in a group chat-like interface.
Its focus on Chatting and its mobile-friendly nature makes spaces more of a competitor to something like Facebook’s Messenger or Whats app.
“You can create a space with just one tap for any topic and invite anyone via messaging, email, a social network, or whatever way you like.” Product director Luke Wroblewski said in a blog post.
Another advantage of Spaces is that the content shared in a dedicated space become searchable. Users can search their spaces by keyword, which returns both links and images.
Spaces rolled out for mobile devices powered by Android or iOS as well as for access through Internet browsers, Wroblewski said.
