Passengers of the Mumbai-bound Duronto Express protested for 15 minutes in Kozhikode, Kerala railway station after they found pantry staff using toilet water to make tomato soup.
It is not the first time that serving of poor quality food in trains have come to notice, but the BJP government had with their promises raised expectations of commuters for quality service.
During this year’s railway budget, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had promised better quality food for the commuters, including baby food, hot milk, and hot water. But it seems like even if these promises become reality, the commuters will have to personally oversee the cooking as there is no guarantee of hygiene.
Passengers on Ernakulam- Mumbai LTT Duronto Express protested on Sunday and submitted a written complaint to the station master of Kozhikode railway station after a few of them saw a kitchen boy using water from the toilet tap to prepare tomato soup.
The protest of the passengers delayed the train for 15 minutes and they embarked on the train only after the Kozhikode station-master assured action regarding the matter.
Earlier, in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha had said that the blankets in AC coaches were washed only every two months. After the minister’s confession, the Indian Railway decided to wash blankets after every use.
