Tamil Nadu’s ruling AIADMK and West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress were set to retain power as BJP was on the way to victory in Assam the Left made a comeback in Kerala.
In Tamil Nadu, AIADMK is on the course to retaining power with candidates leading in 132 constituencies, with the DMK alliance in the lead in 69.
Tamil Nadu assembly has 243 seats and as an AIAKMK win appeared certain, celebrations erupted outside the residence of J Jayalalitha in Chennai.
As expected, Trinamool was sweeping west Bengal. Trinamool Congress’s candidates led in 199 of the 289 places where trends were available two hours after the counting began at 8 am.
The Congress and Left , leading in 41 and 37 constituencies, were at a distant second place. BJP was leading in 12 out of the 294 legislature seats.

In Kerala, the ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front is far behind the Left Democratic Front led by the Communist Party of India- Marxist. The BJP was leading in one seat.
In Puducherry, the DMK-Congress alliance and the All India N R Congress were close contest. The union territory has a 30- member assembly.
