Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, accused for manhandling a member of parliament and elbowing another, said that he was only human doing a high pressure job but promised there would be no repeat of his actions.
As Canadians wondered what to make of an unprecedented physical fracas in parliament involving the prime minister, Trudeau apologized for a third time on Thursday.
On Wednesday evening ahead of a vote, Trudeau, annoyed at what he saw as stalling tactics by the opposition, crossed the floor in the House of Commons to grab Conservative Gordon Brown and drag him to his seat, accidentally elbowing New Democrat Ruth Ellen Brosseau.
Trudeu said that he would accept any punishment meted out by a special committee of legislator examining the incident.
“I think people understand that there is a tremendous amount of pressures that come with this job and I am human”, Trudeu said.
“Weaknesses is when you make a mistake you admit it, you make amends, you ask for forgiveness and you make sure it never happens again.” he added.
Gordon Brown, the MP at the center of the melee, said in a statement to media that he told Trudeau to “let go of me-now. Immediately afterward, the prime minister went back down the aisle of the House to confront other Members of Opposition parties. I later told the prime minister he should NOT have gotten out of his seat.”
The incident happened in parliament became headlines across Canada with #elbowgate trending on twitter.
