In a shocking incident, an Italian woman was burned alive by her ex-lover after her calls for help fell on the deaf ears of passing motorists.
According to Inside Edition, the 22-year-old Sara Di Pierantonio was soaked in alcohol by Vincenzo Paduano, 27, before setting her on fire, on a road outside Rome.
Paduano took the extreme step after he became jealous of his ex-girlfriend’s relationship with another man, said police. They also added that the psychopathic lover followed Pierantonio, who is a college student, after she left the house of her present boyfriend.
Maria Monteleone, the prosecutor, said Paduano rammed his car against Pierantonio’s car forcing her to stop in the middle of the road. Soon after this, he got out of the vehicle and doused his ex-girlfriend’s car with alcohol and set it ablaze.
During this time, the victim mange to escape from the vehicle, but she was chased down and was drenched in alcohol after which the accused light a cigarette lighter on her face, the prosecutor added.
According to media reports, Paduano could not accept the fact that he was abandoned by Di Pietrantonio and this forced him to plan and execute the crime.
Policed called the incident “atrocious.”
Shockingly, the surveillance camera footages show that at least two vehicles passed the spot of the crime as it happened, but none of them bothered to help the woman who was reportedly screaming for help.
The prosecutor said that if the passing motorists had stopped and helped the victim, she could have been saved. She also told women “not [to] keep hidden any threatening behavior by those who insist they love you.”
