Five persons have been found guilty for gang-raping and robbing a 52-year-old Danish woman in Delhi on January 14, 2014. The court will pronounce the sentence on June 9.
“All accused are held guilty for all offenses,” Additional Sessions Judge Ramesh Kumar was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
The criminals were convinced for the offenses under sections 376 (D) (gang rape), 395 (dacoity), 366 (kidnapping), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The five convicts are Mahendra alias Ganja (27), Mohd Raja (23), Raju (24), Arjun (22), Raju Chakka (23). Three minors who were arrested in connection with the same crime are facing a trial before the Juvenile Justice Board. Shyam Lal, another convict in the case, died at Tihar Jail in February this year.
The incident happened on the night of January 14, 2014, when the victim lost her way when she was returning to her hotel in Paharganj area of Delhi. When she approached the men for help, they robbed and gang-raped the woman at knife-point after dragging her to an isolated place near the Divisional Railway Officers’ Club near New Delhi Railway Station.
The convicts had rejected the offenses charged against them. Rejecting the charges, they said that they had physical relations with a prostitute they had hired on the previous day. A total of 27 witnesses were examined before the court.
