Schools to have separate entry and exit gates.

In a bit to mitigate the traffic congestion in Coimbatore city, the traffic police and a few schools in the locality have envisaged a new plan to have a separate entry and exit gate, and are also thinking of implementing staggered hours.
The decision to help ease the traffic of one of the busiest cities in Tamil Nadu came after the city police commissioner and school authorities conducted a meeting on Wednesday, reported The Times of India.
Representatives from 15 schools that were identified by the traffic police as creating major congestion during the peak hours of the day, were invited for the discussion.
“We spoke to the schools about the rising traffic congestion in front their campuses which affect the general public. We listened to their problems and have suggested some solutions,” police commissioner A Amalraj said.
The suggestion to introduce two gates – one for exit and the other for entry, came from the police.
Another suggestion given to the schools was to have staggered timings for each level.
“There can be a difference of half hour between the timings of each section. This will reduce the number of vehicles in front of the school campus and will ease the flow of traffic,” Amalraj said.
The schools also said that they would put forward a proposal to parents so that several students can be pooled to school in one vehicle, which would reduce the traffic considerably.
